Storytelling master Clare Murphy breathes life into forgotten Celtic myths
Based in Bristol, Clare Murphy is an Irish storyteller, speaker, teacher and consultant who has performed on stages and at festivals the world over.
She has been practising the art of story for nearly two decades, with a sizeable collection of work to draw on, from Irish mythology to historical and folktales, with slices of wisdom and quantum physics along the way.
For Murphy, the power of storytelling lies in its ability to foster meaningful connection. She calls it “the ancient technology that drives the world forward from the arts and culture to science and society”.

In April 2024, she appeared on the Blindboy Podcast, live at Bristol Beacon – an episode that Blindboy went on to say was amongst his favourites ever to record.
Soon afterwards, Murphy sold out her storytelling run at The Wardrobe Theatre. She is returning, by popular demand, on March 4 – this time for five nights, in which she will be turning her attention to some Celtic stories of old.

But rather than revisiting well-known stories, Murphy has chosen to breathe life into the untold Celtic myths, “to bring back the women who never made the cut”.
She warns: “these are not your regular myths. “Expect wicked tales of badass deities, feral fighters, unorthodox sex, hairy bodies, mastery, and goddess-on-goddess battles – not for the faint-hearted and definitely for grown-ups.”
The Spanking Goddess & Other Discarded Tales is at The Wardrobe Theatre on March 4-8 at 7.30pm. For ticket availability, visit www.thewardrobetheatre.com.
