Storytellers Ben Haggerty and Steph Brittain present ‘a lost Celtic epic’ at The Cube
The popularity of storytelling events in Bristol indicate a local scene that is continuing to flourish; recent events range from Clare Murphy’s The Liar King and Corinne Harragin’s Troubled Waters to nights hosted by RepresentAsian and Story Slam.
Following a sold-out performance in December, storytelling maestros The Crick Crack Club return to The Cube on April 23 with a reprise of The Bodies on the Beach – The Last Battles of Fionn MacCumhaill.
From “fragments of voices, medieval manuscript, and song”, accomplished performance storytellers Ben Haggerty and Steph Brittain will piece together a “Celtic Iliad” for a live audience.
The set-up is suitably dramatic. “On the westernmost tip of Ireland”, we’re told, “a beach of crystal white sand once ran crimson with the blood of a never-ending magical battle — the last battle fought by the epic hero, Fionn MacCumhaill.
“Raw, lyrical, and unforgettable. This is not just a wild myth retold. It’s an exploration of what it means to live, to regret, to sacrifice, and to endure in a relentless world. What will survive the tide?”
There are a number of content warnings to this show, and viewer discretion is advised.
