The Cube to host new musical exploring life with ADHD
Dora Colquhoun is a neurodivergent theatre maker and performer, and the creator and star of ADHD The Musical: Can I Have Your Attention Please?
Described as a ‘musical comedy lecture’, it pays homage to the likes of Dolly Parton, Julie Andrews and Cher while taking people on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
The show comes to The Cube on October 11 for a two night run as part of a UK tour.
In making it, which she did with support from Arts Council England and research help from Goldsmith University neuroscientist Professor Joydeep Bhattacharya, Colquhoun wanted to address the stigma, and debunk misconceptions about ADHD.
As a woman diagnosed in adulthood, she was also keen to explore the different ways in which the condition manifests in men and women.
“For many years women have been left out of the conversation and research,” she reflects.
“I hope to provide an honest, eye-opening and entertaining account of my experience as a woman with ADHD.
“My aim is to create acceptance, understanding and open up the conversation as to what having ADHD means.
“Let me take you by the hand and explore: Why people with ADHD are drawn to new experiences? Why have I had so many jobs? Why did I drink enough to kill a small horse before a job interview?”
