Review: Just Jack Halloween, Motion

By Caragh Jones  Monday Nov 6, 2017

Just Jack’s annual Halloween extravaganza is a big date for Bristol’s autumn clubbing calendar, and big it was.

Crowds of people queued outside of Motion in fancy dress. Keeping up with the Just Jack tradition, party goers had gone the extra mile with daring outfits and face art. Think horse heads and fake blood to the more creative IKEA bags made into dresses, or perhaps a giant walking Uncle Bens rice box. You get the picture.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Personal efforts fused with weird and wonderful decor, gigantic disco balls and an impressive light show made for a spectacular evening.

With the luxury of two all night long sets, I wandered into Motion feeling pretty smug, ready to immerse myself into the evening without weaving my way around the lineup.

Steffi and Virginia, both linked to Berlin, hooked a large crowd in the Marble Factory as they explored many aspects of the house and techno sound. Pairing an established Just Jack selector with a lady making her debut appearance brought great energy to the room.

Into the main room, DJ Harvey aka Harvey Bassett, named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 25 DJ’s that rule the earth, took the groovers on a journey through house, techno and sweet classics.

Filled with smoke and Dutch selectors, the tunnel seemed to stay busy all night long. Likened to packed out Dekmental sets earlier this year, Young Marco and Interstellar Funk took control of the crowds, with heads bobbing and hands waving.

Shout out to trusty Just Jack residents Dan Wild and Tom Rio and the Shambarber crew who hosted the cave. Another fabulous evening, leaving the Just Jack’ers ready for more.

Next up for the Just Jack soirées is their 12th birthday.
