Review: Hells Bells, The Fleece

By Rhys Buchanan  Saturday Oct 6, 2018

My face lit up as I heard the thunderous and scratchy opening to Riff Raff while ordering two cans at the bar of The Fleece. Friday nights are all about having a good time and Hells Bells brought the thrills to Bristol for this particular one.

There’s no messing about with this tribute band, they look the part, they sound the part and they deliver a setlist that explores AC/DC’s career, from the early 74 Jailbreak EP through to the more recent albums. They also manage to pack in all the japes that the band are known for, whether that’s Angus pulling down his shorts, AC/DC bank notes fluttering around the venue or the cannon finale of For Those About To Rock We Salute You.

Technically AC/DC are a very difficult band to pull off but the group sound absolutely brilliant tonight. They blast through all the classics, tracks like TNT, Highway To Hell and Back In Black all get an airing. They also do a cover of Touch To Much which was notably overlooked during the Brian Johnson era of the band.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Catching up with singer Lee Jay after the show, he proudly tells me they’re the longest running AC/DC tribute band in Europe and with performances like this one, it looks like they’ll be in the business for many years to come.
