Music: Preview: Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival
Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival is back in 2017 and bigger than ever. Started in 2013 by friends Colin Gorrie and Denny Ilett, who believed that a high-calibre festival was missing from Bristol’s established jazz and blues scene, the festival has now grown into one of the city’s biggest music events. The programme is designed to appeal to all sorts of people, with a wide range of musical tastes.
Thursday 16: Metropolis with live score by Andy Sheppard
The 1927 masterpiece will be accompanied by a live score in a world premiere. The 10-piece band has been hand-picked by British composer and conductor Andy Sheppard.
Friday 17: Quantic live ft. Alice Russell
Will Holland, AKA Quantic, makes an appearance at Colston Hall with some of his long-time collaborators, including contemporary soul vocalist Alice Russell.
Saturday 18: Pee Wee Ellis Workshop
Join the legendary saxophonist and funk innovator for a special interactive workshop at The Folk House, and create a new composition by the end of the session.
Sunday 19: Macy Gray
The multi-platinum selling singer and songwriter will be belting out stunning new arrangements of some of her legendary smash hits, and covering some jazz favourites with that famous smoky voice.
