Video of Stokes Croft street party goes viral

By Jecca Powell  Monday May 21, 2018

Videos of people dancing on the streets of Stokes Croft have sparked a viral Facebook sensation.

One video, captured on Saturday evening during Rave On Avon, has been viewed by more than 140,000 people and has received over 4,000 likes; with two other videos also racking up thousands of views.

The sound system was not part of the official event, but was started by a group of partygoers playing music out of the window of their first floor flat close to Ceres.

Cars were struggling to get through the street by around 6.30pm, as DJ Monroller and MC Synda blasted drum & bass into a crowd of hundreds of party-goers.

MC Synda, also known as Mitchell Shellard, was part of the group who started the party and posted one of the videos to Facebook.

“I can’t believe the Stokes Croft road block videos have gone viral,” he said. “I have been doing parties for 11 years and what happened on Stokes Croft last night was special.”

Not everyone, however, was in the party spirit.

Ali Flanagan tweeted: “Rave On Avon being held literally in the middle of a student area during exam season is just having a laugh.”
