A Fantastic Woman
Chilean director Sebastian Lelio's compassionate and timely transgender drama
The Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller Red Sparrow is this week’s big release. Your top arthouse choice is Oscar-nominated transgender drama A Frantastic Woman. The Watershed has a special discussion of the issues raised by this one after the 5:30pm screening on Saturday.
Speaking of the Oscars, many cinemas have added plenty of extra screenings of Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri from Monday onwards in anticipation of these films winning big on Sunday. Following its impressive first week at the box office, Lady Bird is also having its release expanded from Friday.
Elsewhere, Titanic returns for 20th anniversary screenings, the Bristol Film Festival’s spring season kicks off with three big events, and the Watershed has an International Women’s Day screening of Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, followed by a satellite Q&A with Susan Sarandon. Finally, Oasis doc Supersonic is back on screen to celebrate that fact that the NME, in an act of high comedy, has just pronounced Liam Gallagher a ‘Godlike Genius’.
As usual, follow the links for screening times and further information, and go here for our comprehensive film listings.
