John Carpenter to play Colston Hall
Legendary horror film director John Carpenter has just added Bristol to his very short UK tour in October. Before two sold-out dates in Manchester and one in London, Carpenter performs a show at the Colston Hall on Sunday 23 October, which will form the grand finale of this year’s Simple Things Festival.
It’s Carpenter’s first-ever European tour, during which he’ll play a selection of his own memorable soundtrack compositions, plus material from his two Lost Themes albums, backed by a full band. ‘Spectacular visuals’ are also promised. It’s not clear who will be in his live band, but he’s previously toured with his son Cody Carpenter, godson Daniel Davies (son of Kinks guitarist Dave Davies) and members of Tenacious D’s band.
Carpenter’s credits include such classics as Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China. Many of these benefit from his own distinctive synthesizer scores, which earned him a cult reputation among musicians as well as horror aficionados. Indeed, music is now his second career as he hasn’t made a film since 2010’s poorly received The Ward.
The Watershed is currently screening a season of Carpenter classics as part of Filmic 2016. Coming up are Halloween (Sunday 8 May), The Fog (Sunday 15 May), Escape from New York (Sunday 22 May) and The Thing (Sunday 29 May).
Tickets for the Colston Hall show go on sale at 9am on Friday 6 May and are available here.
