Hobbit and Fifty Shades tickets on sale now
All the mainstream Bristol cinemas have now put tickets on sale for the concluding part of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The film opens on Friday December 12, but as usual there are opportunities for exceptionally eager Hobbitheads to catch it just after midnight on Dec 11 (okay, so it’s still technically Dec 12, but that’s how they list these things). At both Vue cinemas, Cribbs and Longwell, you can catch this early screening in 3D and 2D. The Showcase Avonmeads is showing the film in 3D only on Dec 11. Should you be in the mood for a marathon, the Cineworld has a Hobbit triple bill in 3D from 6pm on Dec 11.
Thereafter you can watch the big fantasy punch-up in 2D and 3D at most cinemas. There’s also a third option if you favour Peter Jackson’s preferred High Frame Rate version, which has previously made some punters a tad seasick. As with the first two instalments, this is showing at the Cinema De Lux and Vue Cribbs Causeway cinemas only. See the What’s On section for full details of what’s showing where. The film has yet to be certificated by the BBFC, but it’s likely to be a 12A as before. And you won’t get much change out of three hours.
Looking even further ahead, masochists (and, indeed, sadists) who are eagerly anticipating Sam Taylor-Johnson’s movie version of E.L. James’s Fifty Shades of Grey [see new trailer, left], with Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, will be delighted to learn that they can already give their wallets a good spanking. The Cineworld, Showcase and Vue chains have just put tickets on sale. You’ll have to wait until February 13 to actually see the film, mind, as the romantic distributors are pitching it as a Valentine week treat.
