Gerard and Matt Johnson launch Filmic 2015
Filmmaker Gerard Johnson and his musician brother Matt, of The The fame, will be at the Watershed on March 8 to kick off the two-month Filmic 2015 celebration of the creative connections between film and music. Their appearance also ties in with the release of Gerard’s new London-set crime thriller, Hyena, on March 6, for which Matt has composed the score.
The duo will be in conversation with Watershed cinema curator Mark Cosgrove about their collaboration and the film scores that have most inspired them. Go here for more information and to book tickets for this event. The bothers Johnson have also programmed the ‘shed’s March Sunday brunch screenings of films with particularly noteworthy soundtracks. And a mighty fine line-up it is too, comprising Forbidden Planet (March 1), Vertigo (March 8), Paris, Texas (March 15), Aguirre, Wrath of God (March 22) and Midnight Cowboy (March 29).
April’s Filmic focuses on Folk Noir, with screenings and tie-in gigs at St. George’s. And yes, this will include the mandatory airing of The Wicker Man (original version, not the crappy Nic Cage remake). We’ll have more on this in due course.
