First look at Star Wars short film made in Bristol

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Apr 11, 2023

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Pete Lord and David Sproxton created their work in a house in Hotwells.

Aardman Animations have come a long way since those early days.

But the spirit of their founders’ fun and enthusiasm lives on and has now been seen for the first time in the Star Wars universe.

I Am Your Mother is part of Star Wars Visions: Volume 2, featuring nine new shorts from nine animation studios from across the globe.

Streaming from May 4 on Disney+, the first trailer has been released:

I Am Your Mother is set in the aftermath of the original trilogy, and tells the story of wannabe pilot Anni and her embarrassing mum Kalina.

Characters feature Rebel pilot hero Wedge Antilles, voiced by Denis Lawson as he did in the original trilogy.

Other voice actors include Maxine Peake as Kalina Kalfus, Charithra Chandran as Annisoukaline Kalfus, Daisy Haggard as Dorota Van Reeple and Bebe Cave as Julan Van Reeple.

“We were looking for some kind of idol that Anni would be looking up to,” director Magdalena Osinska told Empire.

“We settled on Wedge Antilles, because he fitted in terms of the Star Wars era. Also, he’s done pretty amazing things in Star Wars, but he wasn’t maybe as recognised.

“I think he has more lines in our film than the original Star Wars trilogy! We really wanted to give him the limelight he deserved.”

“We can’t wait for the galaxy to see this,” wrote Aardman on Instagram.
