FilmBath Tackles Weinstein
As the organisation that pioneered the F-rating system, FilmBath (formerly the Bath Film Festival) was bound to have something to say about the Weinstein scandal. Sure enough, they’ve organised a Suffragette Sunday on May 20, with a whole day of F-Rated film, comedy, discussions, politics and music.
The centrepiece is a screening at the Little Theatre of Frida – Julie Taymor’s 2002, Weinstein-produced biopic of monobrowed artist Frida Kahlo, which star Salma Hayek fought for more than a decade to get off the ground. Late last year, she wrote an eye-opening account of her dealings with the disgraced mogul.
Events over at Komedia include a panel discussion entitled Post Weinstein: Beyond The F-Rating, chaired by Kate Hardie and featuring Phillippa Lowthorpe (director of Three Girls, The Crown, Swallows & Amazons), Jennifer Smith (Head of Diversity at the BFI), Ken Loach (work permitting); Who Runs The World?, in which MPs Rachel Reeves, Jess Phillips, Thangam Debonnaire and Jo Swinson talk about getting their voices heard in politics; and a Funny Women gala comedy evening with Thanyia Moore, winner of the 2017 Funny Women Awards, Funny Women Awards finalist Amy Mason, and many more.
