Chart copyright comScore

Thanks to plenty of previews and saturation screenings, demonic nun flick The Nun scored a very decisive victory, knocking Christopher Robin back into second place. Warners will be particularly delighted as this was the second biggest opening of any film in what we must learn to call the ‘Conjuring Universe’, its £4m haul just behind the £4.6m reaped by 2016’s The Conjuring 2. It’s also well ahead of both previous spin-offs, Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation. Elsewhere, there was little movement on the chart, with Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman and jukebox musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again continuing to hold up well. The only other new release to make the chart was potato famine revenge western (no, really) Black 47, though that’s currently showing only in Ireland. We don’t get to see this one until the end of the month. Outside the top ten, American Animals and The Miseducation of Cameron Post are both doing well on limited releases, but that inspirational competitive jigsaw puzzling flick, Puzzle, inspired only a small number of punters to part with their cash, clocking up just £20,000 nationwide.
