In the peculiar world in which these things are judged, Thor: Ragnarok is yet another a record breaker. That’s right: it’s the biggest non-Bond October opener of all time at the UK box office. This despite the fact that its opening ‘weekend’ actually lasted for, er, six days. Still, we mustn’t sneer too much as the threequel will soon become the best performing Thor movie yet at the UK box office, suggesting that fans of hammer boy have plenty more superheroics to look forward to. In second place, Jigsaw performed reasonably well by Saw standards, suggesting that there’s life in the long-deceased psycho yet. But the film whose popularity has really taken exhibitors by surprise is Armando Iannucci’s The Death of Stalin, which climbed a place in the chart. Local multiplexes are scurrying to add this one to their programmes from Friday. See our listing here for details and screening times. Also continuing to do a roaring trade round these parts, with additional screenings being added, are The Party and Loving Vincent.
