Despite taking half-a-million quid less than the first film hauled in during its opening weekend, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 comfortably deposed Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald to grab top place in this week’s chart. Unlike last week’s damp squib contenders Robin Hood and The Girl in the Spider’s Web (which has now tumbled out of the top ten altogether), this week’s crop included a couple of films that punters were prepared to pay hard cash to see. Knocking Fantastic Beasts down to third place was Creed II (or Rocky 8, if you’re counting), demonstrating that audiences have yet to tire of the sight of sweaty blokes knocking seven shades of shit out of one another. Further down the chart, Bohemian Rhapsody notched up its sixth week in the top five as it broke through the £40m barrier. The Queen flick currently ranks as the seventh biggest hit of the year. Not included here because it played for only one day on Thursday, but still worthy of note, is the event cinema screening of The King and I recorded at the London Palladium. This took more than £1m. Unsurprisingly, additional screenings are now being added locally. See our comprehensive film listings for details.
