After a record-breaking six weeks at the top, Joker has been dethroned by a bit of tinsel, a shitload of sentimentality and some old George Michael songs. Yep, despite being described by The Sunday Times as a film that “seems designed for people who think Love, Actually needed a bit more whimsy”, Last Christmas managed to lure enough of these peculiar folks to the nation’s multiplexes to not only unseat Joker but also see off the blokey challenge from Le Mans ’66. The DC supervillain origin story still took another million quid over the weekend and now sits at number 27 in the UK all-time top 30, just behind Incredibles 2. Further down the chart, The Good Liar is holding up well with a slim 34% drop in earnings. This being another of those films whose mature audience does not tend to stampede to the opening weekend, it’s likely to be with us for a while yet.
