In a fairly quiet week at the UK box office, Bristolian director Stephen Merchant’s well-received, warm-hearted wrestling comedy, Fighting with My Family, fought its way to victory, ending The Lego Movie 2‘s reign after three weeks at the top. This means Merchant’s first chart-topper has already taken more loot at the UK box office than the £1.5m total amassed by his previous film as director, 2010’s Cemetery Junction. “Big thanks to everyone who went to see @FightingWMyFam this weekend and made it UK’s No. 1 film,” he tweeted. “I know there’s a lot of entertainment vying for your eyeballs, so if you chose our film, cheers m’dears, it’s deeply appreciated.”

The next three films just shuffled down a place, but Green Book enjoyed a substantial 55% post-Oscars boost to climb two places. In its fifth weekend on release, this one also did better than the latest Keira Knightly period drama, The Aftermath, which opened just outside the top five.
