Walt Disney’s Toy Story 4 deposes Walt Disney’s Aladdin after four weeks at the top. Indeed, a back-of-a-non-existent-fag-packet calculation reveals that Disney releases accounted for around 70% of weekend takings. Buoyed by good reviews, Toy Story 4 not only exceeded the £11.5m opening weekend of Toy Story 3 back in 2010 but Forky and chums’ £13.3m three-day haul is also a record for an animation. The only other film to exceed that this year was Avengers: Endgame, released by – you guessed it – Walt Disney. The other major new releases not relased by Disney, Brightburn and the Child’s Play remake, were left scrambling for scraps and won’t be breaking records any time soon. Meanwhile, Elton John biopic Rocketman may not stand any chance of rivalling Bohemian Rhapsody, but it continues to hold steady. It has now sailed past the £20m mark to secure a place in the UK top five for 2019.
