So did In the Heights become a Greatest Showman/Bohemian Rhapsody-style critic-defying hit, with audiences flocking to bathe in post-lockdown feelgoodery and sing along with its catchy choons? Er, no. Well, not yet anyway. Musicals sometimes take time to find their feet, but this one was beaten both by fellow new release The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and a resurgent Peter Rabbit 2 in its fifth week on release. That said, takings were up across the board as the weather took a turn for the worse, with each of the top four films grossing more than £1m. As expected, The Father held steady and has now shuffled over the £1m mark. This one should be with us for some time to come. There was comparatively little interest in Monster Hunter, however, which took a feeble £150,000 nationwide.
