Bad Movie Bonanza
Who’d have predicted that local audiences would clamour for tickets to see a film described as “the Citizen Kane of bad movies”? That’s what’s happened with the Bristol Bad Film Club’s February screening of Tommy Wiseau’s legendary The Room. All tickets for their Feb 13 event at the Redgrave Theatre have now been snapped up.
But worry not, connoisseurs of cinematic crap. The (other) BBFC has some ‘treats’ lined up for March and April. Grab those tickets while they’re hot. First up, at Kongs of King Street on March 22, is Street Fighter, which stars the gruesome twosome of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue. This has been described as the very worst adaptation of a computer game ever to hit the big screen. That’s quite some achievement given the calibre of the competition.
Nick Fury: Agent of Shield is the next selection, showing at the Bierkeller on April 29. This ain’t the Nick Fury as portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the recent run of big-budget Marvel superhero films, but an earlier incarnation that everyone involved presumably hoped had been forgotten. Made as a pilot for a projected TV series back in 1998, it stars The Hoff himself (David Hasselhof, for it is he) as a Poundland version of the comicbook superspy.
