Impermanence unveil ‘dazzling’ opening season of dance

The award-winning Bristol-based contemporary dance company IMPERMANENCE has unveiled its spring/summer 2025 season at their historic adopted home of The Mount Without.

With this programme of six shows, IMPERMANENCE hopes to usher in a new era for dance in Bristol.

“This season is a chance to experience dance in its most visceral and exciting form,” said Roseanna Anderson, co-director. “We can’t wait for audiences to experience it all.”

This lineup is said to be “the largest and most dynamic dance programme the city has seen in decades”, showcasing cutting-edge work and supporting new voices in dance.

CRASHOUT opens the season with a powerful exploration of dark fantasy, emotional tension and complex symbolism.

“The season isn’t just about showcasing incredible dance,” said Joshua Ben-Tovim, co-director of IMPERMANENCE.

“It’s about creating a space for transformative ideas to thrive, for artists to push boundaries and for audiences to engage with something truly special. CRASHOUT sets the tone for what’s to come.”

Following CRASHOUT, the season continues with five performances, each offering a unique perspective on identity, culture, and the human experience:

  • April 8-10: AFTER ALL by Solène Weinachter – An exploration of death, loss and the transition between worlds, blending dance, theatre and comedy.
  • May 12 & 13: Songs of the Bulbul by Aakash Odedra – A collaboration between two Sufi Kathak masters, blending spiritual Sufi poetry with Kathak dance.
  • May 14: To Be Continued – A mixed bill of works-in-progress, with a post-show talk offering a glimpse into new creative processes.
  • June 17-19: ELEFANTIN by Cree Barnett-Williams – A satire exploring female image, sexuality and empowerment in pop culture, with a nod to Barbie.
  • July 8-10: Hope Hunt and the Ascension into Lazarus by Oona Doherty – An award-winning piece exploring masculinity, morality and nostalgia.
