Sam Lake: the standup on a comedic journey to Daddy-dom
Sam Lake is a multi-award-winning comedian, writer, presenter and wannabe ‘daddy’, now on his first UK tour with his acclaimed standup hour, Aspiring DILF.
Arriving on the stand-up scene relatively recently, his star has been rising fast and high ever since, with a recorded comedy special of his first show, CAKE, as well as accolades including Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year, a nomination for the BBC New Comedy Award, and TV, radio and podcast appearances including Mock The Week (BBC Two), The Comedy Guide to Life (Dave) and The Joy of Missing Out (All 4).
Directed by Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Lauren Pattinson, Aspiring DILF is Lake’s exploration of toxic masculinity and how to avoid it.
is needed now More than ever
Sam has become scared of the man he could become in the future.
To combat this fragile masculinity, he’s embarking on a mission to ensure he becomes what he believes to be the last respectable form of a man: The Daddy.
Along the way, he looks at the positive role models that have helped to shape his life to date, by way of work colleagues, Furbies, a friend’s 11 year old son, and a trip to Butlins.
“I am buzzing to do my tour show in Bristol,” says Lake. “It’s the only city where I’ve been stopped in the street for a guy to say ‘Phwoah, nice tache!’
“I studied not far from Bristol and love visiting the city, I’ve done many a night out there. In fact someone should check I’m not barred from the venue I’m performing at…
“My last jaunt to Bristol was for the spectacular Bristol Pride Comedy Night, and I’ve done many a show on the circuit, so I’m hoping the proper lovely Bristol crowds come to my DILF-y show!”
Sam Lake: Aspiring DILF is at The Alma Theatre on March 1 at 8pm. Tickets are available at www.chucklebusters.com. Follow Sam on socials @mrsamlake.
