Strange Region Press publish experimental narrative collection from Galia Admoni

By Sarski Anderson  Thursday Jun 18, 2026

As of 2026, Bedminster’s independent publisher of experimental writing, Strange Region, is four years old – and thriving.

Its founder, Joe Vaughan is excited not only by the evolution of his own project, but by its place within a remarkably bookish city.

“Bristol’s burgeoning independent publishing scene is playing a pivotal role in defining the city as centre for literary art in the Southwest”, he says. “We’re incredibly proud to be a part of this explosion of literary activity.”

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!

Following its 2025 anthology Vocal Inhabitants, which featured contributions from 15 writers including Galia Admoni, Strange Region has announced its latest release: a solo, experimental narrative collection from Admoni called Somebody Should Have Pressed Record.

Admoni is the author of Immediately after and then later (Black Cat Press, 2024) and Sad boys are not my kink (Dunlin Press, 2025); co-author of I get lost everywhere, you know this now (Salo Press, 2024) and Art Sundays (Salo Press, 2025); and contributor to publications including Prototype 6, The Rialto and The North.

This very singular book follows a vulnerable woman experiencing desperate isolation as she navigates a solo IVF treatment journey.

Along the way, she becomes embroiled in what is described as “an emotionally fraught relationship” with an imaginary version of the actor Joseph Gilgun (Brassic, Misfits, This is England) “who has taken up residence in her small London flat”.

Amongst the many esteemed writers praising Admoni’s achievement is Max Porter, award-winning author of Shy, Grief is the Thing with Feathers, and Lanny (soon to be adapted for the Bristol Old Vic stage in October).

“I’m a long-time fan of Galia’s potent, surprising, fearless and funny work”, he reveals. “She’s manipulating and blending forms to create an entirely singular voice and I love to hear it.”
