New writing organisation and publishing house for writers in the South West
Co-founded by its editor, Justin Lyle, the newly formed Bristol School of Writing is the product of a small team that includes Simon Clarke, Siobhan Hosty, Richard Craven and Angela Nansera – all of whom are very experienced in writing, teaching or academia.
In Lyle’s words, it is “a series of anthologies of fiction, non-fiction and poetry up to 3,000 words, from the South West of England.
“Each piece of writing is followed by a brief appreciation, or literary analysis, exploring how the piece works and what it means. The collection is both a pleasure and a learning experience about the craft of writing. Every writer who submits their work also receives written feedback.”

Greatorex, Celeste Harvey, Hilary Smith, Dylan Spicer, Richard Owen Collins, Simon Clarke, Rachel Bentham, JM Monaco, Peter Cowlam, Stephen Lang, Tony Domaille, Angela Nansara, Suki Broad, Claire Jaggard and Jon D.
The Bristol School of Writing is partnering with fellow writing groups within Bristol and the South West to grow their network and reach as many aspiring and existing authors and poets as possible.
It is also an imprint of Suspensions Press, described as “a simple new publishing house for writers in the South West that publishes powerful short works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry of up to 40,000 words” by authors in the region. Its first poetry collection, novella and memoir are currently in development.
The launch event for Life and Death is at Bristol Folk House on December 8 at 7.30pm. Entry is free.
