Bookhaus to host a raft of literary events in spring and summer
Nestled a little back from the waterfront at Wapping Wharf, Bookhaus has been steadily building a reputation for curating and hosting a calendar of literary events, discussions and book launches with authors, poets and thinkers.
While some are held in the store, others move to different local venues according to demand, and there are one-off specials too, including Andy Hamilton’s forthcoming ‘nature writing for wellbeing’ walk to nearby haven, Gods Garden.
Other highlights for April include acclaimed writer and trans activist Shon Faye (The Transgender Issue), who will be discussing her new memoir Love in Exile with former Bristol City Poet Vanessa Kisuule at St George’s.

Bristol-based BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated writer, director, animator, illustrator and children’s book author Mikey Please will be introducing his debut work for adults, The Expanded Earth – in which humans find themselves shrunk to “the height of a handspan”, with potentially disastrous results.
In May, guests will include Saba Sams, who is following up on the success of her short story collection Send Nudes with the release of her first novel, Gunk – “an electrifying debut exploring love and desire, safety and destruction, chaos and control – and family in all its forms”.
Poppy Okotcha will discuss her non-fiction book A Wilder Way – How Gardens Grow Us, inspired by her experience of tending her wild garden in Devon through the course of a year.

And Isabel Losada shares her practice of joyful environmentalism, specifically when it comes to ‘How to Practise Without Preaching’ as we confront the climate crisis.
June will feature discussions on Basic Income: The Policy That Changes Everything with Elliott Johnson, Joanna Poulton and Carla Denyer MP, and Frank Close’s Destroyer of Worlds: The Deep History of the Nuclear Age: 1895-1965.
Already announced for July will be the launch of Adele Zeynep Walton’s Logging Off: The Human Cost of Our Digital World, as well as Fascist Yoga with Stewart Home, and Irvine Welsh’s new novel that reunites the Trainspotting crew, Men in Love.
