Waves of Change exhibition explores climate hope and sustainable futures
Waves of Change encompasses a series of collaborative research projects at the University of Bristol, led by Professor Daniela Schmidt (climate scientist), Dr Camilla Morelli (anthropologist) and Sophie Marsh (animation director).
Bringing these three disciplines together, the research aims to engage children and young people in Bristol, Cornwall, Wales, and the Amazon Rainforest, exploring and amplifying their views on positive climate action.
The participants were involved in workshops in which they discussed their current lives and imagined futures, before bringing their ideas to life in writing, illustration and animation based on these conversations.

“The medium of animation allows young people to bring their imaginations of positive futures into view,” say the organisers.
“By disseminating these animated films widely, they can raise awareness about climate change and share a sense of climate hope with others.”

The artwork and animations that has arisen from Waves of Change is being brought together for an exhibition at Wills Memorial Building, which opens with a special launch event, film screening and Q&A on April 21, and will run until July.
The project has been funded by the AHRC, The British Academy, the Cabot Institute for the Environment, Research England, NERC and the University of Bristol.

The Waves of Change exhibition is at the Earth Art Gallery, Wills Memorial Building from May-July; opening every Wednesday at 2-5pm. It is free to attend. Tickets for the opening night film screening, reception and gallery viewing on April 21 are available from www.eventbrite.co.uk.
