Watershed launches new immersive exhibition space Undershed

By Hope Talbot  Wednesday May 29, 2024

Watershed has announced a new immersive art space which will take up residence on its ground floor.

Aptly named Undershed, the space will use technology to present interactive artwork and soundscapes, using technology to involve the audience.

The first exhibition theme at Undershed will be ‘Sing the Body Electric’, in reference to one of Walt Whitman’s early poems.

The exhibition will focus on how our body affects the way we interact with the world, bringing together work from cinema and creative technology.

Undershed’s first curator is Amy Rose, a Pervasive Media Studio resident and co-founder of Anagram, an award-winning creative production studio specialising in immersive experiences and innovative non-fiction storytelling.

She said: “One of my aims for the space is to experiment with what interactivity and participation can mean in this new kind of gallery. Inviting audiences to step more intimately into a story can change how (and where) stories really happen – and inspire dialogue where there might otherwise be silence.”

The Undershed space is set to open in October.

The full programme for the Sing the Body Electric, and information on how to book, will be announced later on in the summer.
