UWE Bristol photography graduates feature as part of the annual UWE degree show
Split across its Frenchay and city centre campuses, the annual UWE Degree Show is an end-of-year celebration of work by over 1000 undergraduates and postgraduate students from the university.
Together, they will be sharing their work through a mix of physical exhibitions, alongside a digital showcase designed to amplify talent and enhance professional practice, enterprise and employability for UWE graduates.
As part of this, a group of peers from the Photography BA course will be showing some of their work at Arnolfini, from June 10-15 (with an invitation-only opening night on June 9).
is needed now More than ever
In the words of one such graduate, Morton Moss, the course allows its students “the ultimate creative freedom in where we want to take our photography, enabling us to take risks but also with a supportive community behind us”.

“My project is exploring my father’s memories from his teenage to early adult years, dealing with his brother’s heroin addiction and sadly his death. The project is aimed at easing some of my dad’s trauma, and exploring his thoughts in a therapeutic environment.
“I have created portrait shoots, collages and now lumen prints as my final resolution. The end result combines archive documents, portrait photography and collage to convey ideas of loss, grief and the empty space left behind.”

“This project is based on an Islamic story told by Hasan Al-Basri, an important scholar in Islamic history. The story is about the battle of faith. It connected with me on a deep level and inspired me to recreate it in my vision.”

“My body of work is a psychological exploration of our own personal human tendencies to dream and fantasise, whilst also crossing the parallel of a greater understanding of where we come from.
“The hunt for a meteorite marks how our curiosity for knowledge and mystery for so long through history has shaped our behaviour and perception of the world we know, examining the boundaries between tangible and intangible.”

Kieran Warburton
“My project focuses around capturing the mundane sculptures that are created as biproducts of human interactions. I like to pay particular attention to subtle changes that happen over a long period of time, and how humans collaborate with each other in unexpected ways.”

“My work explores the conditions agoraphobia and astraphobia that my grandmother suffers from, exploring how these have affected her. I use visual language in my photography to make audiences experience the emotions she feels.
“I have focused on using the domestic garden to represent her safe place from fear and looked into the relationships between the surrounding family members, all coping with her phobias in their own way.”
