Tilda Swinton narrates award-winning mixed reality experience about stories of ADHD
As well as their London base, multi-award-winning creative pioneers Anagram joined Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio 2013.
They describe their speciality as “thought-provoking interactive storytelling and immersive experience design”, and their work has been garnered with critical accolades, including the Sandbox Immersive Art award in 2019, and the Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival 2021 (in the VR section).
In their mixed reality experience Impulse: Playing with Reality, which comes to Watershed’s new immersive gallery Undershed on October 2, four very different stories play out, from four people living with ADHD.
is needed now More than ever
Leanne turns her world into a game to escape boredom. Omar channels his restless mind into daring, risky heists. Errol creates a bold, adventurous persona to gain respect. And Tara is on the brink – of giving up.
Narrated by Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, the experience merges gameplay with real-life accounts of ADHD – a condition thought to affect nearly 2.5 million children and adults in the UK.

“The result”, Anagram explain, “is an immersive encounter with minds that can be exhausting and exhilarating, chaotic and creative. Impulse captures both the struggles and the inventiveness that come with ADHD.”
In its blending of digital and physical realms, the experience is designed to prompt self-reflection and to boost empathy and greater understanding of others.

“We dove into the multifaceted world of ADHD to try and make sense of the chasm between the internal and external experiences of the condition”, explains May Abdalla, CEO of Anagram.
“It’s a topic that takes you deep into a world of regret, anger and passion and it has brought out powerful reflections from audiences around the world.”

Impulse: Playing with Reality is at Undershed on October 2-November 2; multiple times daily. Tickets are available at www.watershed.co.uk.
