String of new street parties announced
Make Sunday Special, a series of free street parties across the city, returns this summer with the first set to be held in the Old City on Sunday, June 12.
Roads will be closed and vehicles replaced with furniture, market stalls and entertainment for the first event of the new season which will also coincide with the Festival of Nature on the harbourside and Celebrating Sanctuary in Queen Square.
After the first event, Make Sunday Special is due to go on the road again with street parties planned in Ashley, Easton and Lawrence Hill, Avonmouth and Kingsweston, Cotham and Redland, Bedminster, Bishopston, Brislington and Fishponds from July 24.
Make Sunday Special events were one of previous mayor George Ferguson’s flagship policies and have been carried on by new mayor Marvin Rees.
Rees said: “I am pleased to see Make Sunday Special back this year with a new, fresh focus.
“Bristol has a great programme of cultural events, but we need to ensure that they are all fully inclusive and open to everyone in the city.”
Local groups or organisations that would like to take part or get involved are being asked to get in touch with the council via [email protected].
