Spectacular ‘Lord of the Rings’-inspired mural unveiled

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday Oct 5, 2023

A spectacular mural inspired by Lord of the Rings has been painted on the side of a house in Easton.

The spray-painted artwork depicts the franchise’s epic fantastical world and characters, from Fangorn Forest and Rivendell to Sauron’s Eye and the Nazgûl.

Conrico Steez (@conricosteez) who grew up in Bradley Stoke, said the commission on Britannia Road was his “dream project”.

“This job was a bit of a dream as a Lord of the Rings fan,” Conrico said.

“I kept an eye on the house as it was being built because I’m local and when it was finished, I stuck a note through the door to set up a meeting with the owner.”

“The first thing he said to me was ‘I’m a massive Lord of the Rings fan’.”

Conrico has been painting murals for the past five years with local pieces including the pillars under Junction 2 of the M32, murals around St Mark’s Road and a unicorn part of Unicornfest.

His style takes influence from Eastern art, especially ukiyo-e and print work.

Conrico now lives in Easton

Conrico added: “We didn’t want to focus on the characters of the Rings but the world and mythology behind it, capturing its beautiful environments and sceneries.

“I took key points from the book and the history and then did some designs and   the client chose this one.

“It was a very fun commission to get – it’s not your everyday. Quite often you do like a personal landscape or some flowers, you know how it is with commission work.

“I’m really quite happy with that as well and the neighbourhood seems to be as well.”
