Public art installation representing ‘silenced’ voices
An art installation with nearly 20 shoes laid around College Green on Saturday morning, hoped to spark meaningful conversations around injustice and unity.
The Shoes of the Silenced were placed near boards with impactful messages representing the voices of those who had lost themselves in the chaos of war, poverty, burnout, betrayal and other hardships.

“They vanished in silence” read one of the boards at the display on College Green
On one of the boards outside City Hall, the author wrote: “These shoes once walked. Now they wait in silence.
is needed now More than ever
“Each pair represents a voice unheard, a life lost, displaced and dismissed.
“Or a soul still suffering in injustice.”
The poem also highlights the many voices that have “vanished in silence” and have since been “forgotten or ignored”.

The art display hoped to represent unheard voices from countries across the world
Other boards displayed names of several countries from around the world – including India, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Africa, China, Sudan and North Korea – each representing voices from within this country that stand for “unity, reflection and community wellbeing”.
The display on Saturday morning was not affiliated with any organisation or political party and only strived to be a “peaceful and respectful” piece of public art.
