Martin Parr remembered in new street artwork

By Betty Woolerton  Thursday Jan 29, 2026

World-famous photographer Martin Parr has been immortalised in a new artwork by Stewy.

Parr, who lived in Bristol and had a celebrated career as a photojournalist, passed away in December at the age of 73.

Now his black and white figure looks onto East Street in Bedminster, with the life-size stencil painted on a wall next to a Miss Millie’s.

Stewy has been a street artist since 2007 and has other works around the city featuring Pop Group lead singer Mark Stewart and Hollywood actor Cary Grant.

The street artist specialises in stencils of “animals, outsiders, rebels, freaks and obscure icons representing the best of culture”.

Martin Parr was known for his fly-on-the-wall and often provocative pictures of British life, publishing more than 130 photobooks over a nearly 50-year career on subjects such as tourism, consumerism and class
