Luke Jerram to discuss new book ‘Of Earth and Sky’ at Arnolfini
Bristol artist Luke Jerram is internationally renowned both as a sculptor and as the creator of numerous public and live art installations that have brought joy to thousands.
At the last count, he has had over 900 exhibitions over his illustrious career, and his work can also be found in over 70 permanent collections around the world, from London’s Wellcome Collection to the Shanghai Museum of Glass and MOMA in New York.
He is characterised as an artist with a profound sense of humanity, from Park and Slide (2014), his transformation of Park Street into a 300ft water slide as part of the city’s Make Sunday Special series, to the touring street piano installation Play Me, I’m Yours, which has now reached 70 cities and an estimated 30 million people worldwide.

In recent years, much of Jerram’s work has raised awareness of science, space, and our relationship to our environment, through large-scale replicas of the Moon, Mars, Earth (Gaia), and the Sun (Helios).
Alongside his primary artistic projects, Jerram funds multiple programmes through his not-for-profit social enterprise the Jerram Foundation, including the Dreamtime Fellowship and Bristol School Arts Fund.
In July he will be at Arnolfini to discuss the launch of his latest book – the sixth of his career.
Luke Jerram: Of Earth and Sky (Bristol Books) tells the story of 30 projects created by the artist between 2019-2025.
“A specialist in creating visual artwork which often attracts large audiences and publicity, Jerram gives an insight into how he works in collaboration with other artists, performers, scientists, anthropologists and members of the public, right around the world, to create these astonishing projects” – say the explanatory notes to the book.
It’s a chance to explore how Jerram “expertly creates opportunities to bring people together”.
