Floating Moon takes to the docks
A seven-metre-diameter model of the Moon that was previously displayed in Palestine was floated down Bristol’s docks on its final journey.
Fallen Moon by Luke Jerram is internally illuminated and made from NASA imagery.
On Sunday evening, it was pulled from the Underfall Yard to the Arnolfini and back again in support of the Palestinian people, accompanied with music from composer Dan Jones.

At the end of its voyage, the Moon was ceremonially cut up with sections of the fabric given away.

“The war in Gaza and the genocide of the Palestinian people is horrific to witness, and like many people I feel helpless and traumatised watching the devastation unfold,” said Jerram.
“Having been to West Bank and stayed in a refugee camp for a week I learnt about the generational trauma and state of apartheid that exists there.
“The invasion of Gaza has always been an opportunity for the Israeli authorities to take the land and further torture the Palestinian people.
“Our government is complicit in this act and their lack of concrete action is shocking.”
