Books on Photography festival weekend returns to Paintworks
BOP – the annual Books on Photography festival will be returning to Martin Parr Foundation and the Paintworks Event Space on October 11 and 12.
It’s an opportunity for photobook publishers, as well as photographers and enthusiasts of the genre to come together in a fun, relaxed and vibrant atmosphere.
Alongside the festival itself, which is free to attend, there will be a series of artist talks, signings, exhibitions and a Photo Pub Quiz, as well as plenty of street food and drink on offer through the weekend.
The wide-ranging list of photobook publishers represented at this year’s bookfair includes Magnum Photos, SERCHIA Gallery, Bristol Community Darkrooms, Besides Press, IC Visual Lab and Setanta Books.
Especially for BOP, photographer and educator Brendan Barry will be building a giant camera obscura, as well as a pop-up darkroom and exhibition.

Colin Moody and Jasmine Ketibuah-Foley will be leading short guided tours to their outdoor exhibition of UP ALL NIGHT, their collaborative multimedia project and photobook documenting Bristol nightlife both pre- and post-pandemic.
And the German-based Fotobus will be driving 650 miles from Hanover to Bristol in order to be in situ for the event.
Visitors to BOP will also be welcome to explore the current exhibition at Martin Parr Foundation, Stephen McCoy’s five-decade retrospective, Proximity.
