Artist creates amazing Bristol doodle map

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Feb 9, 2021

If you’ve let your pen wander during lockdown, doodling in the corner of pages during Zoom calls, you will be able to appreciate the effort of creating an entire map of Bristol in doodles.

Our city has been created in a giant doodle by Dave Draws, an illustrator, mural artist and serial map doodler.

Using only Posca pens, his map of Bristol combines his unique doodle style with cartoonish illustrations of places of interest.

“I’ve been wanting to draw Bristol for a long time as there is so much there and it ended up being super fun to do,” said Dave, who is originally from Chesterfield but now lives in Manchester, working from AWOL Studios in Ancoats.

Previous doodles have mostly seen him stay north of Watford, with maps of towns and cities including Manchester, Nottingham and York.

Prints of the Bristol doodle in sizes from A0 to A4 are now available from Dave’s online shop, with mugs and coasters coming soon.

Famous Bristolians past and present featured on the map include Cary Grant, Judd Trump and Idles.

Locations include the obvious such as St Nick’s Market, the SS Great Britain and Watershed; as well as less obvious locations including the home from the last series of A House Through Time, 10 Guinea Street in Redcliffe.

Dave Draws is also bang up to date with the inclusion of Bristol Beacon – the new name for the Colston Hall – and acclaimed new Korean restaurant Bokman on Nine Tree Hill in Kingsdown.
