100 sunflowers planted in unity with Ukraine
An artist has planted 100 sunflowers next to City Hall for the first stage of what they call ‘Project Sunflower’.
Over the course of three days, the artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, planted the seedlings that could grow up to 12 inches tall within just a fortnight and be fully grown by mid-August.
The artist told Bristol24/7 he is planning on spreading Project Sunflower to other locations across Bristol.
is needed now More than ever
After coming into some resistance from council security staff, the artist worked in three sessions to first create a grid on the grass before digging the holes and planting the flowers.
The seedlings can be found on the small patch of grass at the foot of Park Street opposite Pizzarova.

The artist told Bristol247 that their aim is to bring “positivity and colour to the street”, and for the sunflowers to stand as a testament to the victims of the Ukraine-Russian conflict.
They also intend the artwork to be a “symbol of solidarity with Ukraine” as the sunflower is Ukraine’s national flower.
Eventually, the installation – if the sunflowers are able to grow – will have white canes behind each one, symbolising war graves.
