Second anti-austerity protest planned
Another anti-austerity march is planned in the centre of Bristol almost two weeks after thousands took to the streets against the Government’s planned cuts.
The march on Saturday, May 30, organised by Bristol People’s Assembly Against Austerity, is billed as a “show of defiance” following the austerity plans laid out in the Queen’s Speech.
However, only 500 have confirmed as attending the march – a fraction of the estimated 2,500 who took to the streets in the wake of the General Election results.
Organisers said: “We won’t be silenced by the Queen’s Speech! Bring your pots and pans, instruments, loudest chants and invite your favourite street bands (Samba anyone?) to join the throng!”
The march will set off from The Fountains at 1pm on Saturday and organisers are requesting fancy dress to “ridicule” the “medieval political ritual” of the Queen’s Speech on Wednesday.
