Pukka Herbs offer positive Black Friday alternative

By Holly Clemens  Friday Nov 23, 2018

Black Friday, a tradition from across the pond that originally marked the day after Thanksgiving and the official start of the US’s season of Christmas shopping, has made it across the pond in a big way. The transatlantic trend has become progressively more popular in the UK in recent years, and is a definite date in the diary for some.

But for others, the consumerism isn’t something to be proud of. In the same week that Bristol was announced as hosting England’s first ever Fair Saturday, another local business, Keynsham-based Pukka Herbs, have announced that they are taking a more selfless approach.

Pukka’s CEO Karel Vandamme has pledged to donate 100 per cent of sales made through their online shop from Black Friday (November 23) to Cyber Monday (November 26) to TreeSisters, a charity helping to plant trees around the world.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Karel said: “According to the World Resource Institute, we’re currently destroying over 14 million trees a day. TreeSisters are supporting restoration through reforestation, which is something we are passionate about at Pukka.

“We believe that our health and that of the planet are intimately linked. In the cases of man-made deforestation, we are destroying the ecosystems that nature has designed for cleaning up excess carbon dioxide that is warming our world.

“That’s one of the many reasons we’ve spent time mapping out our carbon footprint, from crop to cup, and have recently become the first UK company of our size to have our climate goal – to be carbon zero by 2030 – independently validated.”
