New initiative to tackle ageism in workplace
One in three people in the UK workforce is now aged 50 or over, according to the reports.
They bring with them decades of experience, emotional intelligence and skills to their roles.
Yet many workplaces remain poorly equipped to support the health, wellbeing and ambitions of this vital group of employees.
A new initiative, Thrive55+, vows to challenge the narrative, albeit in the South West.

The sessions are designed to boost health and wellbeing, build inclusive and age-friendly policies
The fully-funded programme, developed by the National Centre for Integrative Medicine (NCIM) in partnership with the St Monica Trust Charitable Foundation, helps organisations across the South West become more age-friendly by supporting staff and volunteers aged 55 and over to stay healthy, motivated and fulfilled at work.
Participating organisations are invited to take part in a series of short, engaging sessions for senior leaders and staff aged 55+, including a wellbeing breakfast, a strategy workshop and a wellbeing day.
These sessions are designed to boost health and wellbeing, build inclusive policies and co-create strategies that benefit both leadership and employees.
In total, the programme involves fewer than 20 hours of contact time and is completely free to participating organisations.
By taking part, businesses gain access to evidence-based insights, real-world case studies and proven strategies to improve retention, wellbeing and job satisfaction among their 55+ workforce.

Thrive55+ has been described as a part of a growing movement to reshape how we think about ageing and work, turning challenges into opportunities for greater connection, flexibility and purpose.
NCIM is now inviting businesses and organisations across the South West to join the Thrive55+ programme. It’s a chance to make a meaningful difference to workplace culture and community wellbeing.
