New founder-led support network to help local entrepreneurs
A new network of entrepreneurs and business founders has launched, aiming to strengthen the region’s business ecosystem.
The initiative, known as for the FOUNDERS, offers a dedicated space for budding entrepreneurs and independent business owners to draw on the experience and expertise of their peers.
More than 200 businesses have already joined the community, which is free to access at entry level. Members gain access to a WhatsApp group where they can exchange ideas, share experiences and support one another through the challenges of running a business in tough economic conditions.
They are also invited to regular events, workshops and meet-ups to celebrate successes, voice frustrations and build connections.

The network is the first of its kind in the South West and was founded by award-winning entrepreneur Samantha Hamlin, who recognised both the region’s entrepreneurial potential and the challenges facing those starting out.
Hamlin said she wanted to create a space where founders could “share knowledge, experience and skills”.
She said: “There are some truly brilliant people here in the South West and I really wanted to shine a spotlight on the remarkable businesses emerging from the region. We need independent local businesses to thrive for the health of our cities and towns, and I see this community as a force for good, helping those dreamers with big ideas to realise their potential.”

Hamlin looked back on her own journey punctuated by failed ventures, a lack of mentorship and the isolation many entrepreneurs face.
Reflecting on her experiences, she spent considerable time interviewing dozens of founders and identified the need for a platform where knowledge could be shared on all aspects of business, from securing funding to staying afloat during hard times.
Unlike traditional business networks, for the FOUNDERS distinguishes itself by focusing on practical, peer-led support, with no sales reps or intermediaries.
Fifteen business founders from across the South West have also volunteered their expertise to provide one-to-one advice.
Alongside its free community, the group offers paid Core and Inner Circle memberships, which include access to workshops, events, discounts, and expert mentoring. Inner Circle membership is capped at 50.
Among the key members is Tom Ball, founder of the award-winning hotdesking firm Desklodge.
Reflecting on his reasons for joining, he said: “Collectively we’ve had years of uncertainty and people worry about spending with a new company, both as a consumer or at work. Technology does open up more opportunities for all of us but can also make us feel overwhelmed and isolated. I’m convinced the solution is knowing more founders, to share learnings and work together.
“Whether you’re just starting out or have been chipping away for a while, this is a community that cares and can help – and that’s why I’ve joined. It really feels like having a whole team behind you, cheering you on.”

Brand strategist Christine Kavanagh, who helped Hamlin develop the for the FOUNDERS identity, echoed the sentiment.
She said: “For me, for the FOUNDERS is vibrant, real and about belonging. Communities like this are rare, which is exactly why they’re powerful. The South West, and Bristol in particular, has its own spirit – creative, values-led and unafraid to do things differently.
“Founders here care about people, place, and impact as much as profit. That mix makes this region a brilliant place to build businesses that can genuinely ripple positive change.”
