AI-powered subsea surveying company opens office in Bristol
A global subsea survey company, which uses AI-powered tech, has opened a new office in Bristol.
Sulmara, with its headquarters in Glasgow, has become a leading player in survey and inspection services over the years in the offshore wind power sector.
Over the last four years, the company has shown steady growth increasing its business footprint, both within and without the UK.
The technology developed by the firm helps to map and inspect the seabed for projects such as offshore wind farms, undersea cables and marine construction.

By using AI and automation, the company can collect and process ocean data more quickly and accurately, reducing the need for people to spend long periods offshore by speeding up projects.
Leading the new Bristol hub will be Richard Goodwin, Sulmara’s new chief information officer, who brings more than 25 years of experience in global technology and data innovation.
“This is more than just a new office – it’s a highly experienced team ready to deliver from day one,” said Godwin.
“With AI and machine learning, we see a huge opportunity to transform underwater exploration – making it safer, faster, and more precise than ever before.”
The Bristol team will focus on developing tools that can identify unexploded ordnance or detect hazards on the seafloor, helping companies plan and build more safely.
