Boomsatsuma launches short summer courses for aspiring Bristol teens
Boomsatsuma is opening its doors to Bristol’s young creatives, giving 11–16-year-olds a chance to get hands-on with the tools of the creative industries.
Designed specifically for teenagers, these hands-on short courses go beyond the typical summer club.
From designing your own video game level to sculpting characters for 3D printing, or producing your own photography magazine and mastering commercial studio photography, each course equips young people with industry-standard tools and exciting projects to take home.
“It’s about giving teenagers the chance to try the kind of things most people don’t get to do until college or university,” says Elliot Lamb, projects manager at Boomsatsuma.

“We want to show them what’s possible and help them start building their creative future now.”
In Design a Video Game Level, young gamers step into the world of game design at the Tobacco Factory, learning how to build, test, and take home their own playable game.
Commercial Studio Photography invites creatives to work in a professional photography studio, mastering lighting, composition, and editing to produce polished, commercial-style images.
Over at Leadworks, Sculpting and 3D Printing gets students modelling their own characters or creatures using digital tools, then bringing them to life with 3D printing, painting, and finishing.
Finally, Photography and Magazine Production offers a full creative cycle—from capturing striking images to designing and producing a zine—giving participants a taste of storytelling, layout, and self-publishing.

Each course runs across three half-day sessions, is beginner-friendly, and takes place in professional studios led by industry professionals, giving students a sense of what it’s like to be part of the sector.
Alongside learning new skills, they’ll connect with like-minded peers, build confidence, and come away with a finished project to be proud of. Whether it’s a playable game, a printed magazine, or a 3D model, it’s theirs to take home—along with a Boomsatsuma Short Course Certificate to support future CVs or college applications.
At the end of the week, family and friends are invited to celebrate what’s been created.
