Hungry Childhoods exhibition at the Station
Following a successful show at London’s South Bank Centre a powerful new art exhibition called Hungry Childhoods is coming to Bristol.
The exhibition shows the devastating effects of food poverty on some of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
This compelling and moving collection of creative pieces and artwork has been created by a group of children aged between 5 and 19, who are regularly supported by Kids Company.
Using the medium of art to encourage the children to open up about their personal experiences, the exhibition formed part of a wider research study with the University of Reading to better understand the very real impact of food poverty on vulnerable children
The powerful imagery and use of materials in the pieces conveys complex emotions and the physical and mental impact on the children and their families, who often skip meals and go hungry for whole days
Visitors are invited to interact with the life size kitchen which forms the exhibition and discover the experiences of hunger behind the doors
Hungry Childhoods is a collaboration between Kids Company Bristol and baby and children’s food company Ella’s Kitchen.
Over a quarter of children in Bristol are living in poverty and the same number are claiming free school meals, often relying on these as their primary source of food
