Given that his feature debut Get Out was one of the best films of 2017, writer/director Jordan Peele set the bar pretty damn high for this follow-up. It’s inspired by the 1960 Twilight Zone episode Mirror Image, in which a young woman encounters her double while waiting for a bus.
Peele’s film centres on an African-American family headed by Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong’o, who are terrorised by their doppelgangers. He insists that, unlike Get Out, this is not a film about race, but it still has deeper themes – specifically the notion that “we are our own worst enemies”.
