The Third Murder

Director
Hirokazu Kore-eda
Certificate
15
Running Time
125 mins

When veteran wrong ‘un Misumi (Kôji Yakusho) confesses to the murder of a wealthy industrialist, it seems like an open and shut case. Defence lawyer Shigemori (Fukuyama Masaharu) has other ideas and sets about establishing his client’s innocence, while pondering what could have motivated Misumi to claim responsibility for a crime that carries the death penalty.

Hirokazu Koreeda‘s courtroom drama is an idiosyncratic genre film from a director best known for his intimate family films, such as Like Father, Like Son and Our Little Sister. It’s back on screen in the Watershed’s comprehensive Of Flesh & Blood: The Cinema of Hirokazu Kore-eda season.
