Polina

Director
Valérie Müller, Angelin Preljocaj
Certificate
12A
Running Time
108 mins

Young Russian ballerina Polina (Anastasia Shevtsova) has trained all her life to make it at as member of the Bolshoi corps to escape from her grim surroundings. But then she cops off with a fellow dancer and scarpers to France, where she discovers the free-spirited world of modern dance.

Adapted from a graphic novel and co-directed by renowned French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, Polina shines, as you might expect, in its extensive dance sequences. Rather less impressive is the storyline, which Variety described as being like an asutere, deliberately paced European art film version of the ballet school audition climax of Flashdance.
