Reinaldo Marcus Green‘s Sundance award winning (Special Jury Prize) feature debut is a timely and polemical urban drama drawing inspiration from several real-life incidents.
Denzel’s son John David Washington builds on the promise he showed in BlacKkKlansman as an undercover cop whose white colleague shoots dead an unarmed black street hustler resisting arrest in Spike Lee’s old stomping ground of Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood. The incident is also filmed by security guard Manny (Anthony Ramos) on his smartphone. According to the official police li(n)e, the suspect was reaching for a gun. Both men know this is untrue, but each has reasons for not speaking out. Will anyone step up and, ahem, Do the Right Thing? Go here for our review.
